Smoke Leads to Clearing of JWA Terminal
A John Wayne Airport terminal was evacuated for half an hour Sunday afternoon when a ticket counter computer overheated and started smoking, officials said.
No flights were delayed or canceled and passengers continued to check in curbside while Irvine firefighters investigated, said United Airlines spokesman Steve Roth.
The closure of the terminal and outside roadway backed up traffic on the upper level.
By 12:45 p.m., despite fire alarms beeping and the acrid smell of smoke, passengers were again lined up in the terminal.
