Lucky, Sanchez Among Finalists

Running back Marlon Lucky of North Hollywood and quarterback Mark Sanchez of Mission Viejo are two of 14 nominees for the Ball Park national player of the year award, which will be announced during the fifth U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 15 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The other nominees are: Toney Baker of High Point (N.C.), Ragsdale; Jake Christensen of Lockport (Ill.) Township; DeMarcus Granger of Dallas Kimball; Justin King of Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway; Rashard Mendenhall of Skokie (Ill.) Niles West; Greg Paulus of Manlius (N.Y.) Christian Brothers; Ryan Perrilloux of Reserve (La.) East St. John; Kenneth Phillips of Miami Carol City; Fred Rouse of Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln; Jonathan Stewart of Lacey (Wash.) Timberline; Jerrell Wilkerson of San Antonio Clark; and Derrick Williams of Upper Marlboro (Md.) Roosevelt.
Final rosters for the game have been set. Joining Lucky and Sanchez on the West squad, which will be coached by John Barnes of Los Alamitos, are his son, Jimmy Barnes, a quarterback at Los Alamitos, receivers David Gettis of Los Angeles Dorsey and DeSean Jackson of Long Beach Poly, offensive lineman Rodney Picou of Moreno Valley Canyon Springs and safety Kevin Thomas of Oxnard Rio Mesa.
The game will be televised live on NBC at 10 a.m.
Miscellany
A memorial service for Rick Scott, the longtime football coach at Ventura Buena and Newhall Hart, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Ventura High’s stadium. Scott, who died Saturday, coached Buena for 16 seasons before going to Oxnard Rio Mesa this season as an offensive coordinator. He was 55.
