Battered Eastern Region Braces for Typhoon

High winds and heavy rain battered the eastern Philippines as the region braced for a powerful typhoon and rescuers searched for 177 people missing after landslides and flash floods this week. The death toll rose to 412.
People were warned to stay on high ground and watch for big waves from Typhoon Nanmadol, which could hit land today with 150-mph winds.
