CROSS-COUNTRY
* Diego Mercado, West Covina: Finished third in 15 minutes 46 seconds in the boys’ seeded race at the West regional of the Foot Locker Championships at Mt. San Antonio College, qualifying for the national finals Saturday at Balboa Park in San Diego.
* Alma Escobar, Corona: Finished third in 18:16 in the girls’ seeded race of the Foot Locker West regional at Mt. SAC, qualifying for the national finals.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
* Erika Arriaran, Norco: Had 22 points, 12 rebounds and five assists to lead the No. 7 Cougars (4-0) to a 62-51 victory over No. 6 Santa Ana Mater Dei (3-1) in the Irvine Woodbridge final. Arriaran was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
