Skip the cab and take the subway
I was surprised to read in “To N.Y. and Back With $19 to Spare” [Weekend Escape, Oct. 24] that on a trip in which the goal was to be frugal, writer Craig Nakano spent $14.50 per person on airport cab fare.
In March, for about $7 per person, I took one subway ride from Manhattan to Queens, and switched to the new AirTrain to JFK. The ride was comfortable and took less than an hour. Wouldn’t it be novel if Southern Californians could avoid the highways and take the Metro directly to LAX someday?
