Body of Salinas’ Brother Found

MEXICO CITY — Enrique Salinas, the youngest brother of former Mexican President Carlos Salinas de Gortari, was found dead Monday, with a plastic bag tied over his head, inside a car on the outskirts of Mexico City, officials said.
Alfonso Navarrete Prida, attorney general of Mexico state, where the body was found, said it appeared that Salinas was killed during an attempt to extort or get information from him.
“Generally, if you put a bag over someone’s head, you’re often not trying to kill them,” Navarrete Prida said. “I don’t think we’re talking about a politically motivated crime.”
Enrique Salinas, 52, had long maintained a low profile in contrast to the stormy lives of two of his brothers. Raul Salinas is serving a 27-year prison sentence for masterminding the murder of his former brother-in-law.
