Vaca City Flyer on a Roll

If there were an award for the best $8,000 claim of 2004, Vaca City Flyer would be the winner. Taken by trainer John Martin for owner Bob Bone out of a maiden race on July 14 at Solano, the 3-year-old Michael’s Flyer filly won that afternoon and has lost only once in six subsequent starts.
Vaca City Flyer has earned $105,100 and will try to add to her bankroll in today’s seventh at Hollywood Park.
Vaca City Flyer will be ridden for the first time by Corey Nakatani in the $43,000 allowance at 6 1/2 furlongs. Bartok’s Blithe, Cyber Slew, Cryptos’ Best, Jetinto Houston, Lady Sabrina and Nyramba complete the field.
Race of the day: In today’s fifth at Aqueduct, Garrett’s Girl will look for her sixth win of the year and first since being claimed by owner-trainer Scott Lake. The 3-year-old Master Bill filly will be ridden by Mike Luzzi in the $20,000 claimer at six furlongs.
One for the road: Wally Ballou more than doubles his claiming price after a big win against $4,000 claimers Nov. 11 and can come right back for trainer Mark Rheinford in today’s fifth at Golden Gate Fields. David Lopez will ride the 6-year-old Game Plan gelding in the $10,000 claimer.
Exotically speaking: A pick three using Do Da Princess and Novel in the sixth, Vaca City Flyer and Cyber Slew in the seventh and Glamour Cat, Flirty Girl, Jazznwithcandy and Bend in the eighth.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/68. Money: Previous day/meet total: $17/$388. Total money bet: $428.
