Rescuers pulled at least four survivors from a building that collapsed in mudslides 10 days ago in the Philippine village of Real, and officials raised the known death toll from storms that devastated the nation’s northeast to at least 842.
The four survived by drinking “any kind of liquid that dripped” from the rubble, said Maria Tamares, 49, who was rescued with her 3-year-old granddaughter and two teenage boys.
They were given sips of coconut water and flown to a hospital in the nearby city of Lucena.
Reports that at least 20 survivors were sighted were not confirmed.
