Plan to Bus Homeless Criticized
Los Angeles City Council members on Wednesday officially condemned Santa Clarita’s plan to bus some of its homeless residents to shelters in Los Angeles.
The smaller city had decided on the plan after announcing that it would not open its own winter shelter.
The resolution, written by Councilwoman Jan Perry, calls on cities around Los Angeles County to address homelessness in their own communities rather than bus people elsewhere.
Councilman Tony Cardenas called Santa Clarita’s plan “arrogant and un-American and irresponsible.”
Santa Clarita officials have said the intent of the busing program was not to burden Los Angeles.
