Taking a big bite out of the city

THE guy who made a name for himself cracking wise as the ultimate slacker in “Van Wilder” may not be the obvious choice to play a driven vampire hunter. But Ryan Reynolds does exactly that in “Blade: Trinity,” which opened Wednesday. The Canadian actor says slaying bloodsuckers with Wesley Snipes wasn’t such a stretch. “My character is an acerbic vampire hunter,” he points out. “He gets by on his guns and his smart mouth.” On this count, Reynolds is well-armed.

After beginning his career as a teenager in the Nickelodeon series “Fifteen,” Reynolds, 28, has worked his funny bone on the big and small screens, in everything from “Two Girls, a Guy and a Pizza Place” to a cameo in “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.” Now he’s showing his dark side: In addition to “Blade,” he’ll star in a remake of “The Amityville Horror” next year. Good thing living in Santa Monica with his fiancee, singer Alanis Morissette, puts a smile on his face.

Open to anything

Friday night is a free-for-all. I love to eat at Pinot in Hollywood. My friend Dan Finnerty has a band called the Dan Band, so if he’s playing we go. It’s great, because he’s this shlubby guy covering strong female anthems. He does “You Oughta Know” as part of a medley, and Alanis has gotten up on stage to sing it with him. If he’s not playing, it’s rent-a-movie night. To us there’s no such thing as a bad movie. We really liked “Spellbound,” but we also loved “Blue Crush,” so there you go.

I get up really early on Saturdays, and Alanis likes to sleep in. So I’ll go to the Santa Monica Farmers Market with our Chihuahua, Books. I’m secure enough in my sexuality to take my little white Chihuahua for a walk. But not when he’s wearing a sweater.

Straight arrows

I love to practice archery at Rancho Park in Century City. Then I’ll come home and have breakfast with Alanis. I love making breakfast and then watching the ocean from our patio, but sometimes we will go out, either to the Broadway Deli or to Joan’s on Third. I like the quiche there. I know, I’m really digging myself into a hole with the Chihuahua and the quiche. But real men do eat quiche!

In the afternoon we’ll walk down to Manhattan Beach or Venice Beach. Lately we’ve been throwing the baseball around near the pier. Alanis has got a killer fastball. If I’m not in a coma after that, we eat at the Border Grill, either the quesadillas or grilled chicken burrito. I’ll even dare to have a Mexican coffee there. It might be the worst thing you’ve ever tasted the first time, but the tequila does so much damage to your nervous system that the second one is lovely.

After that, it’s dancing in East Hollywood. There’s a few really great little clubs down there, like the Room, A.D. and Joseph’s. We usually like dance music that fuses a Latin vibe with techno.

Game day

Sunday is a follow-your-nose kind of day. I’m kind of obsessed with football, but usually I’ll burn out on that by 1 or 2 p.m. In the afternoon I’ll write. Freestyle stuff, but not scripts. If I ever write anything that starts with INT. SMOKY BAR or whatever, I’ll kill myself.

Later I’ll go to a friend’s house to play poker. We play five-card stud, none of this Texas hold ‘em stuff.

After that, I’m done for the night, because Monday is all about responsibility.
