‘Dreams’ wakes up to reality

“Bombay Dreams,” the lavish Bollywood musical, will close Jan. 1 on Broadway after an eight-month run, nowhere near recouping its reported $14-million investment.
The show, which currently features Tamyra Gray of “American Idol” fame, will have played 284 performances when it ends its engagement on New Year’s Day. Nonetheless, its American producers plan to take the musical out on the road.
Posting closing notices for Jan. 2 were Eve Ensler’s “The Good Body” and “Dracula the Musical,” which originated at La Jolla Playhouse and was directed by Des McAnuff.
On a more positive note for Broadway, it was announced that Academy Award winner Denzel Washington will star in a new production of Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar,” with previews starting March 8 at the Belasco Theatre.
