The highest-ranking U.S. diplomat who fights human trafficking demanded that Cambodia free 91 women and children who were abducted from a shelter a day after their rescue from a brothel in Phnom Penh.
The victims were rescued by police Tuesday but recaptured by armed traffickers in an attack on a shelter operated by a U.S.-funded private organization, the State Department said.
“It’s outrageous,” envoy John Miller said in Washington. “What the government of Cambodia has to do is arrest the traffickers, free the victims,” he said.
