Lead bullet no smoking gun

Regarding “Condor Advocates Seek Lead Bullet Ban” [Dec. 21]: I refer you to The Times’ Oct. 8, 2002, article “Last of 3 Wild Condor Chicks Is Found Dead,” which reported that during a necropsy at the San Diego Zoo, pathologists found 12 bottle caps, shards of glass, electrical fixtures, screws and washers inside the second of the turkey-sized chicks. Another article said that two condors in one week had been electrocuted by power lines, and that one died after drinking antifreeze dumped on the ground by a government employee. But the ban of lead bullets will save the condors?
