Stanford Has No Trouble Getting Past Oregon State

Sebnem Kimyacioglu had 10 points and 10 assists to help Stanford beat Oregon State, 83-45, Monday in a Pacific 10 Conference opener at Corvallis, Ore.

Led by Brooke Smith’s 18 points, the Cardinal (9-1) played aggressively after having lost, 70-67, to Tennessee on Dec. 21. Shannon Howell, who has a 22.4-point average, was limited to two points for the Beavers (4-6).

No. 11 Connecticut 76, George Mason 54 -- Barbara Turner had 14 points to lead the Huskies (6-2) over George Mason (4-4) at Hartford, Conn., only hours after her team dropped from the top 10 for the first time in nearly 11 years.

No. 21 Arizona State 67, Washington State 39 -- The Sun Devils (9-2) won the Pac-10 opener at Pullman, Wash., forcing 22 turnovers by the Cougars (4-6). Kristen Kovesdy, Amy Denson and Emily Westerberg each scored 11 points to lead Arizona State.

Arizona 67, Washington 63 -- The Wildcats (9-2) won despite injuries to starting center Shawntinice Polk and starting guard Jessica Arnold in a Pac-10 opener at Seattle.

Polk, who had 15 points and 12 rebounds, left the game in the final minute after hurting her right knee.

Arnold suffered a shoulder injury in the final minute of the first half and did not return. The severity of the injuries was not immediately known.

Dee-Dee Wheeler scored all of her 18 points in the second half to lead the Wildcats. Cheri Craddock’s 14 points led the Huskies (4-7).
