A 54-year-old Camarillo man was fatally injured Tuesday when he tried to stop his Jeep Wrangler from rolling backward, officials said.
Edward Monares Jr. was pulling out of the driveway about 6:50 a.m. at his home on East Highland Drive when he stopped to help his wife take out the trash, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Steve Reid.
When the vehicle began rolling backward, Monares tried to stop it but was struck. He was taken to St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital, where he died at 7:45 a.m. from skull fractures, said Senior Deputy Coroner James Baroni.
