Mother Held in Death of Malnourished Infant

The mother of an 8-month-old girl was arrested after her daughter’s malnourished body was found Wednesday evening in their apartment near MacArthur Park, police said.
“The baby was completely emaciated -- wasting away,” said Lt. Art Miller. “Anyone could see the baby was malnourished.”
Fire Department officials, responding to a call from the apartment in the 200 block of South Lake Street, found the body. Police arrested Ana Mata, 28. A girl about 6 years old was taken into protective custody.
