City Votes to Ban Wood Shingles on New Homes

The City Council on Tuesday voted to ban the use of wood shingles as roofing on all new structures.
But the council rejected a suggestion that existing homes be required by 2028 to replace wood shingles.
Mayor Dick Murphy said he was concerned that the elderly might not be able to afford the upgrades. The moves came just three months after the Cedar Fire destroyed nearly 300 homes.
