High School Starts Student Drug Testing
Student drug testing has begun at Carpinteria High School.
It’s the first school in Santa Barbara County to begin testing some students for drugs. Each week, a computer will select five students from a master list of those currently participating in sports and cheerleading, and they will be asked to submit a urine sample.
About 400 students participate in such programs.
Students will be tested for five types of illegal drugs: marijuana, methamphetamines, amphetamines, cocaine and opiates. A positive test will result in the student being suspended from sports or cheerleading for three weeks.
