Army Replaces Leader of Iraq Prison Inquiry
- Share via
The Army replaced Maj. Gen. George Fay with a more senior general, Lt. Gen. Anthony R. Jones, as chief investigator into the role of military intelligence in the abuse at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
At issue was the need to interview Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, who has been the top U.S. commander in Iraq.
The Army wanted a lead investigator of rank at least equal to Sanchez, who wears three stars. As a major general, Fay wears two.
Meanwhile, the Senate said it had confirmed the Army’s vice chief of staff, Gen. George W. Casey, as commander of all U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq, replacing Sanchez.
