NEW ORLEANS — Four teenagers are accused of killing a man as he left the city’s annual jazz festival, the second shooting death in three months at a major New Orleans tourist event, police said Monday.
Police said the four teens demanded money from Daniel Breaux, 57, as he walked to his car Saturday after the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, then shot him in the head as he continued walking.
The killing took place six blocks from the music event as crowds leaving concert grounds streamed into the surrounding residential neighborhood.
The 14-year-old accused gunman, two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old were arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery, police said. Their names were not released because of their ages.
Organizers said the death of Breaux, a social worker, was the first killing tied to the event, which marked its 35th year.
