Physicians Are Indeed Motivated by Profit

Richard Carpe makes the point that “MDs have as their primary goal quality patient care, not profits, regardless of ownership” (“How Doctor- Owners Can Benefit Hospitals,” Letters, May 9).
This statement is proven wrong by the actions of the cardiologists at the Tenet Healthcare Corp. hospital in Redding who allegedly did hundreds of unnecessary heart surgeries to improve profits.
