From Times Wire Reports
Three former Oakland police officers who were acquitted last year of misconduct charges, including kidnapping and beating suspects, are being retried.
During opening statements Monday, Alameda County Deputy Dist. Atty. Terry Wiley said new evidence would prove that Jude Siapno, 36, Matt Hornung, 32, and Clarence “Chuck” Mabanag, 39, lied to cover up assaults of suspects in their custody.
The three men, known as “the Riders,” were found not guilty of eight felony charges in 2003. Jurors deadlocked on 27 additional felony charges.
