A salute to actor Jim Brown will highlight the African American Film Marketplace and S.E. Manly Short Film Showcase, taking place this weekend at Hollywood’s Raleigh Studios at 5300 Melrose Ave.
Brown, a former Hall of Fame football player who starred in several films, such as “Slaughter” and “100 Rifles,” before becoming a youth advocate and activist, will be honored Sunday during the closing night of the festival.
In addition to several seminars featuring industry insiders, the event, which begins today, will screen more than 50 short films featuring and produced by young black filmmakers from around the country.
The event is sponsored by the Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center. Tickets for activities are $25 to $100 and can be purchased at the festival.
