Paul Iams, 89, a onetime dog food salesman who developed the Iams line of pet foods, died Oct. 26 in Chappaqua, N.Y. The cause of death was complications from a broken hip, said his daughter, Barbara Iams Korein.
Iams, a native of Dayton, Ohio, graduated from Ohio State University and served in the Navy during World War II.
He started the Iams Food Co. at a feed mill in Tipp City, Ohio, in 1946, after working for several years as a dog food salesman for a grain company. He later moved his company to Dayton.
Iams retired in 1982 and sold his stake in the company to his business partner, Clay Mathile. The company was later sold to Procter & Gamble Co.
