Golden Gate Fields had planned a stakes race to highlight its opening-day card today.
Not enough fillies and mares entered the contest, so it was postponed, leaving an eight-race program of claiming races.
Race of the day: Sweet Stepper, who has won half of his eight starts on the Hollywood Park turf, makes his debut for trainer John Sadler in today’s third in Inglewood, an $80,000 claimer at 1 1/16 miles.
One for the road: Standin- outinacrowd runs in the seventh at Churchill Downs, a $48,200 maiden race at one mile on turf. It’s part of a pick six with a $140,074 carry-over.
Exotically speaking: A pick four using Upgraded and Kenza in the fifth, Magicjakenjohn and Jammin J J in the sixth, Running Free, Legal Logic, Colonial Reign and Licari in the seventh and Outta The House in the eighth.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/15. Money: Previous day/meet total: $27.20/$89. Total money bet: $84.
