Wilco won’t go mainstream

If refusing to stand still musically is one measure of a great band, Wilco has to be a contender. After winning the hearts of indie-rock land in 2002 with the atmospheric pop of “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot,” the Chicago group returned this year with “A Ghost Is Born,” an album that gives free rein to Jeff Tweedy’s inner crazed rock guitarist. They did it without sacrificing their intimacy and catchy hooks, but expect the guitars to be front and center at the Wiltern LG, because the band features L.A. guitar demigod Nels Cline in its touring lineup.
Wilco, the Wiltern LG, 3790 Wilshire Blvd., L.A., today and Friday, 8 p.m. With Carla Bozulich. Sold out. (213) 380-5005.
