A strong current flipped a truck as it tried to cross a shallow river in Bolivia, killing 27 farmers on their way to a market, police said.
The accident occurred in Palca, east of La Paz. The truck’s driver tried to cross through the water because a nearby bridge had collapsed.
“The Palcamayu River was calm, but when we reached the middle of it, a flood of water flipped the truck and carried us for several meters. Everything happened quickly. Luckily, I am still alive,” said Juan Terrazas, the truck driver. Police said he was one of three survivors.
