Eight Killed in Magnitude 6.2 Quake

A strong earthquake damaged roads and buildings in Costa Rica and killed eight people, most of whom suffered heart attacks, officials said.
The magnitude 6.2 temblor cracked major highways, toppled water towers and knocked pillars from under a house, collapsing it onto a parked car. The National Emergency Commission said 500 homes were damaged and power lines were down in some areas.
“We jumped from the bed like two cats,” said Panama’s first lady, Vivian de Torrijos, who was attending a summit with her husband.
