Peterson Jury Told How Dogs Pick Up Scent

A search dog handler testified Tuesday in Scott Peterson’s murder trial on how dogs pick up scent and follow trails as they search for missing people.
Prosecutors have started a new phase in the trial by moving toward the introduction of evidence discovered by dog handlers that authorities claim places Peterson’s dead wife at the scene where he allegedly dumped her body.
Christopher Boyer, a volunteer for the Contra Costa County search and rescue team, returned to the witness stand Tuesday. Prosecutors say search dogs picked up Laci Peterson’s scent at the Berkeley Marina where Peterson launched what he said was a solo fishing trip the morning of Dec. 24, 2002 -- the day he later would report his wife missing.
