Former Zoo Director Dies of Insect Stings

A retired director of the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo died after he was stung about 1,000 times by yellow jackets when he fell onto their underground nest from a ladder while cleaning windows at his home.
Earl Wells, 75, had been in a coma since the Sept. 12 attack near Huntertown, about 10 miles north of Fort Wayne. He died Tuesday at a hospital.
