Japan and the U.N.

Before Japan can assume a greater role in the U.N. to deal with the genocide and other horrific events committed by other nations, as a reader suggests (letter, Sept. 22), the Japanese government must come clean with its own crimes committed during World War II: sex slaves, human guinea pigs, massacre, forced labor, to name a few. Until then, and until Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi stops paying visits to the war shrine, I am afraid they are not qualified.
