Name the Ambassador School After RFK

In “A Misguided Memorial to a Great Man” (Commentary, Sept. 23), Maxwell Kennedy argues: “Historical preservation should be about spending our limited resources to save those places and things that give us a tactile sense of a particular time or place, or a person of some significance.” Fair enough.
The Ambassador Hotel is a grand work of architecture (tactile) that represents L.A.’s glamorous early heyday (time and place) and witnessed the shooting of Kennedy’s father (a person of considerable significance). With these reasons in mind, preservation would seem to be not just the best option, but the only option.

Maxwell Kennedy’s commentary about his father and the Ambassador Hotel was heartfelt and moving. Given the scope of Robert F. Kennedy’s life and the enormous legacy he left us, I believe he should be remembered somehow by the LAUSD. There is a simple solution: The high school, without question, should be called Robert Kennedy High.
