Re “Suicide Casts a Shadow on Conservation Battle,” Aug. 20
After my first visit to the Carrizo Plain a few years ago, it soon became my favorite spot for hiking and stargazing. Its austere beauty and isolation are the perfect antidote for life in a crowded city. That Marlene Braun would end her life rather than compromise over protecting the land is sad but understandable and, indeed, admirable.
