Church Working Toward Ties With Vietnam

The Vatican said it hoped to quickly normalize diplomatic relations with Vietnam, in another indication that Pope Benedict XVI is intent on bringing Asia’s sizable Roman Catholic minority into formal ties with Rome.
The gesture follows a weeklong visit by a Vietnamese government delegation and comes on the heels of several Vatican overtures to China since Benedict’s April 19 election.
