Berlin — Among the few participants who defied Bob Geldof’s request that performers resist the temptation to attack political leaders, German punk-rocker Campino said during an onstage interview that the difference between Live 8 and Live Aid two decades ago is “This one is not only about a bunch of whites who pull out their donation wallets. This is a very much more aggressive happening. We have to get Africa out of USA’s headlock.”
Another announcer, comedian Michael Mittermeier, joked between sets that “Since the U.S. has attacked Iraq, the world hates America more than Germany. Thank you, America!”
