Landslide in San Juan Is Called Minor

San Juan Capistrano city engineers and Orange County sheriff’s deputies were assessing what was described as a “small landslide” late Monday.
The slide, adjacent to the 2800 block of Avenida Placida, was at least 200 yards from the nearest structure and “as far as we know, nobody is at risk and no homes are in danger,” said Lt. Hayward Miller, an Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
The slide came to the department’s attention, he said, about 7:45 p.m. when “apparently one of the homeowners noticed a shift in some soil on the hillside and made the call.”
City engineers and fire personnel were called to the scene, Miller said, “to see if there are any public safety issues. Once [their assessment] is completed, we will be able to formulate a plan if one is needed.”
