Gov. Names Lawyer to Board of Regents

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger named Eddie Island, a former associate general counsel for the McDonnell Douglas Corp., to a vacancy on the University of California Board of Regents.
Island, 61, of Santa Monica, spent four years at McDonnell Douglas before retiring in 1998.
Previously, he served as assistant general counsel for Los Angeles-based Pacific Enterprises Corp, the parent company of Southern California Gas Co.
Island was named to a seat that has nine years remaining of a 12-year term.
His appointment must be confirmed by the state Senate.
