Injury Could Keep Rolen Out Six Weeks

From Associated Press

St. Louis Cardinal third baseman Scott Rolen was put on the 15-day disabled list Thursday because of a sprained left shoulder and could sit out up to six weeks.

Rolen’s shoulder was still too sore to undergo complete medical testing, but George Paletta, the team physician, said the results of an MRI exam showed no significant structural damage and he was hopeful Rolen would be able to take a second exam today that would detect any damage to the labrum. Rolen was injured in a collision with the Dodgers’ Hee-Seop Choi on Tuesday.

Steve Karsay was released by the New York Yankees, and fellow reliever Felix Rodriguez had surgery on his injured left knee. The move was a costly one for the Yankees. Karsay has a $5-million salary this year, and his contract contains a $6.5-million option for 2006 with a $1.25-million buyout.
