Council won’t appeal ruling for Venice tenants

After a long discussion in closed session, the City Council voted 11 to 1 Wednesday not to appeal or ask for clarification of a court decision that favored the remaining tenants of the Lincoln Place apartments in Venice.
The 2nd District Court of Appeals ruled last month that the city should have prevented a developer from evicting nearly 100 tenants in 2005 as part of a plan to turn the site into condos.
An attorney for the developer, AIMCO, said the company would appeal the court’s decision. Councilman Bill Rosendahl praised the move, saying he was pleased his colleagues stuck up for tenants.
