* at Montreal 6, Boston 1: Chris Higgins and Alex Kovalev scored Montreal’s first two goals off faceoffs and Cristobal Huet made 31 saves to lead the Canadiens. Bryan Smolinski, who played his 1,000th regular-season game, set up Mikhail Grabovski’s first career goal that put the Canadiens up 5-1 midway through the third.
* at Carolina 3, Vancouver 1: Cory Stillman and Chad LaRose scored and the Hurricanes ended a two-game losing streak. Cam Ward stopped 19 shots and improved to 5-0 in regulation.
* San Jose 4, at Calgary 1: Milan Michalek scored twice, including a short-handed goal, to lift the Sharks.
