Ventura County wildfire is 56% contained

Thanks to improved weather conditions, the 28,000-acre wildfire in Ventura County is 56% contained and all mandatory evacuations have been lifted, officials said.
Some municipal fire engines are also being released, officials said. More than 1,800 fire personnel from across California and neighboring states had been dispatched to help battle the blaze, which erupted Thursday near Thousand Oaks.
“We’re doing a large demobilization of resources today and tomorrow,” said Nick Schule, battalion chief with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Cooler temperatures and rising humidity Saturday helped firefighters get a handle on the blaze, which had burned all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
Although 15 residences were damaged, no homes were destroyed and no injuries were reported. Twenty-five outbuildings were destroyed.
The estimated cost of fighting the Springs fire stands at $4.5 million and continues to rise, officials said.
