One car collision impacts traffic lights at Pacific Coast Highway, Bayside Drive

A single car collision into a light pole in Newport Beach Sunday closed all lanes of westbound Pacific Coast Highway.

Newport Beach authorities said a gray Chevy truck collided with a light pole at around 9:36 p.m. Sunday and the male occupant was extracted from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to department spokeswoman Heather Rangel.

Lanes reopened on Monday morning, but the traffic lights in the area of Bayside Drive and Pacific Coast Highway — where the accident occurred — were still being impacted as of Tuesday afternoon.

Caltrans spokeswoman Elizabeth Manzo said agency crews were in the process of finding a replacement pole for the traffic signal pole that was damaged by the accident on Sunday. Crews were out Tuesday to do work related to the pole.

“As of now, we do not have a time frame of when the traffic signal pole will be replaced, because these poles are manufactured as needed due to their very specific requirements,” Manzo said on Tuesday. “However, we will continue to update motorists of any ongoing work [or] lane closures via our social media channels and by communicating with the city of Newport Beach, while our crews work on a solution.”
