Corona del Mar High’s boys basketball was the winner Sunday in a
coin flip for home court advantage in Tuesday night’s CIF Division III-AA
quarterfinals game with Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, and although the game
will be at a neutral site (Estancia High), it’s hardly neutral for Corona
del Mar, which has considered Estancia its home-away-from-home for some
time now.
Newport Harbor (18-8), meanwhile, lost its coin flip and will have to
travel to Brea Olinda (21-6) for its second-round matchup with the Orange
League champion.
In girls hoops Wednesday, No. 3-seeded Harvard-Westlake was a coin
flip winner and will host Corona del Mar (22-5) in the quarterfinals of
Division III-AA play.
Costa Mesa, which had won twice on the road, is an automatic host for
its III-AA quarterfinal match with No. 2-seeded Bishop Montgomery.
In Division III-AA soccer, Corona del Mar’s girls and Estancia’s boys
both lost coin flips and will be on the road in Wednesday’s games.
Corona del Mar takes its No. 2-seed credentials to St. Paul, while
Estancia puts its No. 2-seed reputation on the line at Orange Lutheran.
In water polo, Corona del Mar is an automatic home team against No.
3-seed Rosary Tuesday afternoon.
