Wrestling: CdM wins Battle of Bay

CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar High wrestlers won 11 of 14 matches
as the Sea Kings earned a 59-17 nonleague victory over Back Bay rival
Newport Harbor Tuesday on the Sea Kings’ mat.
The victory was CdM’s first over the Sailors in at least seven years,
according to CdM Coach Gary Almquist.
The Sea Kings received pins from Brian Freeman (119 pounds), Ben Inouye (130), Ben Wynkoop (140), Dan Ornguze (189) and Steve Shipman
(215), while Jeremy Warner (112) won on a technical fall after building
an 18-0 lead.
Newport Harbor senior Bruce Lim (125) and junior Tim Alexander (152)
pinned their opponents, while Kevin Lim (103) won by technical fall,
21-6, to round out the visitors’ victors.
CdM senior Blake Hacker (168) received one of the Sea Kings’ two
forfeit victories to up his record to 20-1.
Chris Bello (135) won, 18-4, Anthony Trankiem (145) won, 12-3,
heavyweight Brad Sperber won, 20-11, and Ben Fredricksen (171) won by
forfeit to round out the CdM conquest.
The Sea Kings (7-10) host Estancia tonight at 6 p.m. in a battle for
second place in the Pacific Coast League.
