Crew: NAC wins final regatta of the year

FOLSOM - The Newport Aquatic Center Junior Crew team powered its
way to victory Saturday and Sunday at the California State Rowing
Championship at Lake Natoma.
On Saturday, the novice women’s “A” four (Jean Geddes, Olivia St.
Clair, Lauren May and Emily McKay with coxswain Lauren Lorman) won by
over eight seconds.
Another winner for the NAC came on Sunday from the men’s intermediate
quad (Joe Weiland, Drew Curiel, Nolan Rousset and Danny Hilton).
The novice women’s coxed quad of Geddes, McKay, Sara Welles and
Shannon Packer placed first by 12 seconds, while in the intermediate
singles event, Kate Frank placed second and Jillian Dickinson took third.
Missing first place by an eyelash was the men’s coxed quad of Grand
Ginder, Drew Chaffe, Brian Booth and Brandon Dillman, while coxswain Sean
Childs.
The novice girls “A” eight of Geedes, Walles, Packer, St. Clair,
McKay, Lauren May, Alisia Ford and Lindsay Payne with Lorman as coxswain,
took the silver, as did the men’s varsity quad of Peter Sims, Greg
Everett, Dylan Wooters and Matt Elder.
McKay also took home a silver medal as a women’s varsity single, along
with the women’s quad of Anne Kircher, Lindsey Hurban, Hilary Ellis and
Desiree Taormina.
The varsity men’s and women’s quads and the varsity single will
advance to the National Championship in Cincinnati, Ohio June 9.
