B.W. COOK -- The Look
Coordinated and classic men’s wear has been brought back to life by
the popularity of television host Regis Philbin. “Who Wants To Be A
Millionaire?” has not only made many contestants wealthier, but it has
helped line the pockets of numerous manufacturers of men’s shirts and
ties, bringing back a crisp, tailored and color-coordinated look for the
male gender.
One such company is Van Heusen, which sells at Macy’s and Nordstrom in
South Coast Plaza, Robinsons-May and Bloomingdale’s at Fashion Island,
and selected men’s boutiques.
The designers at this established label have been making quality men’s
wear at moderate prices for decades. The Look features a sampling of
men’s shirts for casual wear, office attire and an evening out. All have
a suggested retail price of $34.
CUTLINES
1. Van Heusen’s classic American Khakis collection features this
jean-blue plaid on khaki, which pairs perfectly with denim. The
button-down, cotton shirt can be layered with a T-shirt or neatly tucked
for casual office attire.
2. Ivy League is revisited and updated with this classic oxford shirt
smartly striped in a soft blue. On-the-horizon colors include yellow,
green and red stripes, zingy regimentals that take traditional a step
forward.
3. This cotton shirt in khaki-based cranberry and red plaid is perfect
for getting away at the pier. This traditional sport shirt is great
layered, equally good worn in with a blazer at the office, virtual or
not.
4. Van Heusen offers this classic poplin-with-pop. The traditional
fabric gets a fresh start with an array of tropical summer colors --
sundew, sandstone, celadon, mauve and a bevy of blues.
5. Van Heusen shows its “sunny disposition” for summer. Lighter colors
are captivating -- sun-bleached and balmy peach, purple haze, English
blue, amber, green and rose. Styling is classic, back to the traditional
button-down collars and pinpoint oxford fabrics. Preppy with panache.
