Costa Mesa High’s boys soccer team got off on the right foot
Wednesday, recording a 2-0 Pacific Coast League-opening victory at
University High.
Eli Solis, with an assist from Michael Gardiner, drove home the first
goal in the 41st minute of the first half, and shortly thereafter, in the
50th minute, Alfonso Pineda scored the clincher off an assist from Solis.
“We were a little sluggish at first,” said Costa Mesa Coach Eugene
Day. “But we got into the groove in the second half. We definitely
stepped it up.”
Bryce Sheridan made it stand up with his goalie play, stopping five
shots.
Costa Mesa, which improved to 7-3 overall, outshot University, 18-7.
Mesa returns to PCL action on Friday, hosting Northwood at 3:15.
