Vanguard salvages tie

Vanguard University scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh

inning to salvage a 4-4 tie with visiting Point Loma Nazarene in

Golden State Athletic Conference softball Tuesday after dropping the

first game of the doubleheader, 4-0.

Four unearned runs in the fourth inning led to Vanguard’s demise

in the opener.

Ashley Mauro, who had a double in each game, slugged a two-out,

two-run single to lift Vanguard into a tie in the nightcap, called

because of darkness.

Vanguard is now 6-2-2, 0-1-1 in the GSAC.
