Local riders shine

Newport Beach resident Whitney Roy tops a list of local riders who

fared well at recent events in the Indio Desert Equestrian Circuit at

the Empire Polo Grounds.

Roy, 17, was champion in the children’s jumper division (ages

16-17). She won 2 of 4 classes (separate rounds featuring the same

competitors) to claim the overall title. She also was fourth in the

working hunters.

Julie Koetting, 17, of Newport Beach, was second, second and

fourth in children’s jumper competition.

Nicole Kim, 15, also of Newport Beach, was fourth and seventh in

the modified junior amateur jumpers, while Kate Wilson (Newport

Beach) and Anne Schroeder (Corona del Mar) both posted sixth- and

eighth-place class finishes in the same division.

This competition was completed Jan. 22.

Wilson won the modified junior jumpers classic division at the

second Indio circuit show.
