Hobie Sports wins Majors title on final day of regular season

Hobie Sports earned an outright Majors Division title at Laguna Beach

Little League by defeating Laguna Surf & Sport, 7-2, on the final day

of the regular season at Riddle Field.

Entering the day tied with VFW atop the division standings, Hobie

took sole possession of first place after VFW was defeated by the San

Juan Capistrano Dodgers, 15-3.

Hobie won the title the hard way, though.

The team found itself in a 2-0, hole after the top-half of the

first inning when VFW’s Cain Faire homered, his second home run of

the season.

But Hobie responded in its first attack at the plate.

Hits by Ty Pierce, Chris Kennedy, Dillon Pierce, Alex Germano and

Matt Moisen led to two runs and a tie score.

The second inning was all-Hobie as Nate Wilson drew a walk and the

Pierce brothers, Ty and Dillon, singled to load the bases.

That set the stage for Germano who delivered a two-run single to

centerfield to give his team a 4-2 lead.

Hobie never trailed again.

The defensive play of Eli Viszolay in centerfield and Keaton Jones

in right field helped protect Hobie’s lead.

It also backed the pitching of Cole Kennedy and Jackson Christy

who combined to allow one hit in five innings.

Final Majors regular season standings: 1. Hobie Sports, 12-4; 2.

VFW, 11-5; 3. Firefighters, 8-7; 4. Sportsworld, 7-9; 5. Laguna Surf

& Sport, 5-10; 6. American Legion, 5-11; 7. Rotary, 3-12.

San Juan Capistrano Little League won the Intra-City Trophy by

posting a 16-9 record against Laguna Beach opponents.
